Floating pond and lake fountains are beneficial to all aquatic life, because they replenish the often lacking oxygen levels in stagnant pond water. Circulating your pond or lake's water is one of the first and most effective ways to implement a proactive healthy pond management strategy. A few of the many benefits to adding a pond fountain to your pond or lake includes: algae and muck reduction, decrease in population of pesky insects like mosquitos, improved water quality, and a gorgeous water feature!
Improves Water Quality
Moving water increases dissolved oxygen levels and supports fish and aquatic life.
Reduces Algae, Odors & Mosquitos
Better circulation limits algae growth, discouraging mosquito breeding and preventing unpleasant odors.
Creates a Beautiful Pond Display
Decorative pond fountains create a stunning focal point while adding the relaxing sound of moving water.
Trying to determine which floating fountain pump or aerator system is right for you can be a very daunting task. We know that! So we wrote down all the information you'd need to understand the difference. Head on over to our pond pump sizing blog and get started in the right direction.
Another useful tool we've created is our pond calculator tool. One of the key factors in determining which system will work best for your pond or lake is knowing its acreage and surface area. From there you can decide the horsepower size of the unit you'd like to purchase. We set up the pond sizing calculator to do all the work in pairing you with a product that's perfect for you, try it out!
We offer the best pond LED lighting kits in the pond business. Our light offerings include the top manufacturers in the industry including Scott Aerator, Kasco, & PondSelect. These fountain lights are extremely brilliant and customize-able. Options of Bright White, Warm White, or Color Changing lights are available. Upgrade your fountain display, and turn heads through the night!
Pond fountains and aerators typically require little to no maintenance. You should keep an eye on the pump's water intake to make sure it is free from leaves or other debris, as the pump can overheat if it is clogged. PondSelect Fountains have various mesh cage options to reduce the maintenance level of these units to practically nothing! Damage to the pump can occur as a result of excessive mineral build up. It is recommended to remove the fountain pump once per season and rinse it with clean water. Removing the fountain from your pond in colder climates is a possible recommendation depending on the pump's manufacturer. Some pumps aren't designed to stay in frozen water.
** Failures can occur with any mechanical unit. We do NOT recommend anyone swim in water with a pond fountain or aerator running.**
One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that you should choose your decorative fountain based on horsepower. In reality, the spray pattern and display size are much more important (because that's what you'll actually see and enjoy every day!).
A 1 HP fountain from one manufacturer can produce a dramatically different display than a 1 HP fountain from another. For example, Scott Aerator fountains generally create more stream-like spray patterns, while Kasco Marine and Vanguard fountains tend to produce fuller, more frothy displays. Both may have the same horsepower, but they'll look completely different once installed.
We recommend choosing your fountain in this order:
1. Find the spray pattern you like best.
Every manufacturer offers unique patterns and styles, so start by choosing the display that best fits the look you're after.
2. Decide how large you want the display to be.
After you've found a spray pattern you like, scroll down to the Technical Specifications section on that fountain's product page. There, you'll find the height and width of each available spray pattern. Use those dimensions to choose a display that fits the scale of your pond or lake!
3. Let the horsepower follow.
Rather than shopping for a "1 HP fountain," choose the fountain that creates the display you want. Horsepower is simply one factor that influences the size of that display, and different manufacturers achieve different results with the same motor size.
All of the pond fountains we offer have designated anchoring points built into the float. These anchoring points are used with what's called mooring rope to keep your fountain securely in place.
There are two primary ways to anchor a floating fountain. The first is by tying the mooring ropes to weights (such as concrete or cinder blocks) and placing them on the bottom of your pond. For the best stability, position the weights at approximately a 45° angle from the fountain rather than placing them directly underneath it. The second method is by running the mooring ropes to the shoreline and securing them with camping stakes or another solid anchor point.
Most fountains have multiple anchoring points for added stability. For example, PondSelect fountains have two anchoring points located on opposite sides of the float. If you picture the float like a clock, the attachment points would be at roughly the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions. Simply tie your mooring ropes to these points, then secure the other ends using whichever anchoring method you've chosen.
Many manufacturers include mooring rope with their fountains, but some do not, so it's always a good idea to double-check what's included before ordering. If your fountain doesn't come with mooring rope, we're happy to help you get exactly what you need - just ask!
We sell our fountains to just as many residential customers with a small pond in their backyard as we do commercial developments. While these fountains might look intimidating at first, they're actually very straightforward to install.
If you can assemble a piece of patio furniture, you can usually assemble a pond fountain. The assembly itself is simple, and most 115V fountains are essentially plug-and-play. Once you've assembled the fountain, simply anchor it in your pond and plug it into a properly protected outlet.
230V fountains require a hardwired electrical connection. While some customers are experienced working with 230V electrical systems, we recommend having the electrical connection completed by a licensed electrician to ensure a safe and code-compliant installation.
Aside from the electrical connection, the rest of the installation is very straightforward. Homeowners install these fountains themselves every day, and if you ever have questions along the way, we're always happy to help.
This is a great question, and the answer really is... it depends. Just like every pond is different, every installation is different. We've seen properly maintained pond fountain motors still running after 25 years, while we've also helped customers troubleshoot issues that developed after only a year or two.
The biggest factors in how long your fountain will last are how well it's maintained and whether it's receiving the proper power supply. Following your manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule can make a tremendous difference in the lifespan of your fountain. For example, Kasco recommends changing the oil in their motors every three years. Performing routine maintenance like this, along with periodically cleaning the fountain, can help keep your system running reliably for many years.
While no mechanical unit is guaranteed to last a certain number of years, keeping up with the recommended maintenance is one of the best things you can do to get the longest life out of your investment.
The electrical side of things is just as important. Low voltage, undersized extension cords, and other electrical issues can all shorten the life of a fountain motor over time. If you'd like to learn more about properly supplying your fountain with power, we wrote an article that dives into the details - it's well worth the read!
Absolutely! All of the pond fountains we offer use continuous-duty motors, meaning they're designed to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There's no harm in letting your fountain spray around the clock.
That said, some customers prefer not to have their fountain running all the time. Whether it's to save on electricity, reduce noise overnight, or only enjoy the fountain during certain hours, timers are a great option. Timers are compatible with virtually every pond fountain we offer, and many manufacturers even include one in the box.
If you're adding LED fountain lights, those systems typically include a photocell/timer that automatically turns the lights on at dusk and off again later in the evening, so you can enjoy your fountain after dark without having to think about it.
Without a doubt! Fountain lighting can be added whenever you'd like, whether you're ordering a brand-new fountain or you've had one installed for a while.
When ordering lights by themselves, one of the best ways to make sure you receive the correct lights and mounting brackets (since there are a few different options) is to either give us a quick call or simply let us know which fountain you have in the Customer Notes section during checkout. This way we'll make sure you receive the correct lighting kit for your fountain, so installation is as simple as possible.
Not sure which lights fit your fountain? Don't worry - give us a call, and we'll help make sure you get the right kit.
All of the manufacturers we work with follow a very similar warranty process. If a product issue occurs during the warranty period, simply reach out to us and we'll provide the appropriate warranty form, along with instructions on which parts should (and shouldn't) be shipped back to the manufacturer.
Once everything is packaged up, you can use whichever shipping carrier is most convenient for you (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.) to send the required components back. After the manufacturer receives the unit, they'll inspect it and determine warranty coverage.
While there's no way for anyone to guarantee warranty coverage before the manufacturer has had a chance to inspect the unit, we work with companies that stand behind their products. In our experience, it's very uncommon for a warranty claim to be denied unless there's clear evidence of misuse, accidental damage, or another issue that's outside the warranty terms.
If you ever have a warranty issue, don't worry - you won't be navigating the process alone. We'll help guide you through each step and make sure everything gets to the right place.
