Below are Kasco fountain sizing charts for effective aeration for both the VFX aerating series and the JF decorative models, updated to their most current recommended horsepower-per-acre ratios. To use either chart, find your pond’s average depth in the left-hand column, then find your pond’s total surface acreage across the top. The cell where they meet is your recommended model.
A quick note on these charts: the model recommended by these charts is heavily based on the aeration capability of the products. We understand there are many factors that go into choosing the right fountain for your pond, including electrical cost, spray pattern dimensions and available power by the pond. These charts are meant for the customer that is looking for a nice fountain aesthetic, and is highly interested in properly aerating their pond.

- If aeration isn’t the sole motivating factor for choosing a fountain, spray pattern type and size will be a better way to decide.

Frequently Asked Questions
The VFX is Kasco’s aerating fountain series, made for better oxygen exchange and water circulation. The JF is Kasco’s decorative fountain series, designed to produce visually stunning spray patterns. Both come in the same general horsepower sizes, but are implemented in ponds differently due to customer goals and priorities.
Both fountain series require pretty similar levels of care. For ponds with lots of debris and weeds the VFX is the better choice. It pushes water through larger openings than the J series’ spray nozzles, so it’s less prone to clogging in debris heavy environments.
Both fountains run at nearly the same cost per horsepower. From an aeration perspective, the VFX series lets you aerate more area per hosepower, which lowers your overall electricity demand.
